The Crustacean Nation will soon have new and improved digs. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are spending 31.8 million publicly-funded dollars to renovate 121 Financial Ballpark.
The minor league baseball team is planning a major upgrade to the facility it has called home since 2003. The Jacksonville Business Journal reports the club needs the upgrades to meet Major League Baseball requirements.
Starting this season, fans will be treated to a new video board that is nearly 20% larger, new ribbon boards and new concourse seating for fans.
The long-term vision includes creating an enhanced club space behind home plate, a new front porch and center field plaza to welcome fans. In right field, there are plans for a a multi-level building, which would make the Jumbo Shrimp VyStar Credit Union Souvenir Store accessible on the street level and on the concourse level. It will also serve as an event space for banquets and meetings.
